The Education and Military Arts School was opened in 1855 for the children of samurai in the Matsushiro Domain to study regular subjects as well as martial arts. There are seven buildings: the auditorium, classrooms for studying literature and military tactics, and dojo for learning martial arts.
It is safe to say that this Education and Military Arts School, with the buildings remaining almost entirely as they were when the school opened, is the only one of its kind in Japan.
