Archery Hall

Originally built as an archery practice hall, the Archery Hall was converted into a classroom and a music room with its matoba target house being removed when the facility was placed under the administration of Matsushiro Prefecture in 1873. As the matoba was restored in the 1997 repair, however, this hall is currently serving its original purpose.
As the Laws Governing Military Households (promulgated in 1615) once stated, samurais were required to devote themselves to "archery and horsemanship." While firearms and cannons had a natural advantage as weapons, archery was one of the special martial arts for samurais of the Matsushiro Domain due to its stress on correct manners.
